In order to help ensure the Kansas Assessment Program is responsive to the needs of Kansas students, CETE recently compared KAP summative scores to ACT performance for a sample of Kansas 10th graders.
At the request of KSDE, CETE analyzed a sample of 2014–15 KAP summative assessment scores in English language arts and mathematics and compared those students’ scores to their ACT scores in reading, English, and mathematics. The analysis revealed a strong correlation between the KAP summative assessments and the ACT. This correlation underscores the KAP exams’ academic rigor and effectiveness as a proxy for college and career readiness.
